Well-prepared visitors
A clear trend this year was the exceptionally high level of preparation among attendees. Many students arrived with concrete plans, targeted questions and a strong understanding of their possible pathways. Like Jo-vonni VMBO 4: “It has always been my dream, especially to go to Korea, because I really want to become a fashion designer with my own label and my own brand. So I want to go outside Europe where I can learn new things and meet new people.” The enthusiasm of visitors resulted in engaged conversations and meaningful interactions at the booths. Parents were once again strongly represented. Many shared that they wished they had taken the step abroad themselves and were eager to help their children seize that opportunity now. Their enthusiasm and curiosity created a dynamic atmosphere throughout the fair.
Lieke de Jong from EF also appreciated the attendance of parents:“If you are planning on going abroad, the decision is usually made by both the parents and the students. Having everyone together at the same time and being able to have that conversation with all the stakeholders or decision makers is very valuable." Beyond meaningful interactions on the exhibition floor, visitors could enjoy a series of interactive activities. A bucket-list wall invited students and parents to share their international dreams, from learning a new language to completing a full degree abroad. Visitors were also invited to compete in a puzzle competition and there was the possibility of sending a postcard!
On both days, the fair offered a full program of over 60 presentations and info sessions spread across multiple lecture halls. These sessions covered a wide range of topics: taking a gap year, arranging housing and financing abroad, preparing for bachelor’s or master’s studies overseas, navigating visa or admission processes, and understanding cultural differences. The presentations were delivered by experienced students, international university representatives, and professionals from global organisations, all sharing practical insights and real-life experiences.
Diverse exhibitors
This anniversary edition welcomed a wide and international mix of organisations. Visitors could speak with universities such as from Stockholm, Edinburgh, Paris, Hamburg, Kraków and many more. They could also explore programs from global organisations like EF Education First, Travel Active, Au Pair in America and several cultural exchange foundations. Whether interested in studying, working, traveling, or volunteering abroad, attendees could explore a broad spectrum of global opportunities.
Of course, this anniversary edition needed some unique offer too. Therefore, on the Thursday night before the fair The Inspiration Event was held. This was an event for international educational institutions with sessions from EAIE and Nuffic and a bit of networking afterwards. Many of the participants had traveled over 300 kilometers to be there and for most of them it was even their first time at the fair. Even though most universities experience a steady increase in international students at their institution, there are still challenges to overcome. Joke de Bruijn, Communications Officer at Nuffic explained: “The biggest obstacle we hear to study abroad is finance. The conditions and requirements of student finance for a full degree abroad can be complicated and students are in need of clear information.” Furthermore, topics such as best practices, the drivers of degree seeking students to study abroad and the main challenges of recruiting international students were on the table. We want to thank the participants for the fruitful discussions and the great evening!
Positive reactions from exhibitors
Exhibitors praised not only the size of the crowd but especially the high quality of conversations. Many reported that students had done extensive research beforehand and asked well-considered, detailed questions. The strong engagement, smooth organisation and excellent communication with the fair team contributed to a highly positive experience, encouraging several organisations to confirm their participation again for next year. Lieke de Jong (EF) adds: "The main benefit for us of being here as an organization is the personal conversations, the fact that we can speak to someone face to face. It is much more powerful than speaking over the phone or by email."
