Semmelweis is a highly ranked Hungarian university in Budapest, offering academic programs in the fields of medicine, dentistry, pharmaceutical and health sciences. Semmelweis is among the top 300 universities in the world according to the Times Higher Education (THE) 2026 world rankings, which makes it the highest ranked Hungarian higher education institution.

Semmelweis degrees are accepted in the European Union and worldwide. Medical graduates are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) before applying for a residency position.

A third of the more than 16,000 students are international, hailing from about 130 different countries. International students are welcome to attend the university’s scientific, cultural, and sporting events, which help them connect with others and feel like engaged members of a true multicultural community.
