General Introduction on Zhejiang Province
Zhejiang province, located in southeast coastal region of China, has long been known as “a land of fish and rice, home to silk and tea, a place of rich cultural heritage and a paradise for tourists”. The province covers a land area of 105,500 square kilometers and a sea area of 260,000 square kilometers, with the largest number of islands in China. The population of the province is over 65 million. Zhejiang is a province with most active development of economy in China with its GDP and the income per capita taking a leading position in the whole nation. With a long history and splendid culture, Zhejiang is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization. The capital city Hangzhou, with beautiful sceneries, has long had the fame of “Paradise on earth”. The West Lake, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal as well as the Liangzhu Cultural Relics have been listed as World Culture Heritage Sites. In the year 2016, the city hosted the G20 Summit, and hosted the 19th Asian Games in September 2023.
In recent years, Zhejiang province has put a priority on education development, focused on building the brand of "Quality Education in Zhejiang", and fully implemented the strategies for realizing education modernization and establishing powerhouse of higher education. The province has established a complete education system including basic education, vocational education, higher education and continuing education, with its basic education taking the lead in the whole nation, vocational education among the top group and higher education boasting most rapid development in China.
Adhering to the policy of fostering virtue through education, we put a priority to nurture a new generation of young people with all-round development who are well-prepared to be a world citizen. We are determined to accelerate the establishment of a high-quality education system that everyone can learn anytime and anywhere. By 2027, we expect to be the first province to build a well-balanced and high-quality basic education system, to ensure high-level popularization of higher education, and to increase inclusive human resources investment. The overall development of education reaches the average level of developed countries.
